Our wedding

With lots of love, some wide-eyed optimism, and probably a little bit of folly, we have decided to get married. We are building a beautiful life together and are excited to celebrate it with the people we love. We can’t wait to share our little piece of paradise—Maset Antonia, our olive farm in Catalonia, Spain—with the most important people in our lives.

August is what Catalan farmers call the temps de figues, "time of the figs.” In Catalonia fig trees are so deeply woven into the cultural and agricultural fabric that the passage of a year here is still denoted by the saying figues a figues, which begins and ends with the harvest of the figs. This is a time of transition, reflection, and sweetness, so despite it also being the hottest month, it feels like an appropriate time for ritual, ceremony, and celebration.

Location

The barbecue and wedding will be on the grounds of our olive farm. It’s quite rustic, and will be outdoors where the ground is a bit uneven, so please wear practical shoes. Don’t dress to impress, dress to be comfortable!

Maset Antonia is in the town of El Perelló, about 90 minutes drive south of Barcelona and two hours north of Valencia, on the sunny Costa Daurada (golden coast). El Perelló is the honey capital of Catalonia, so it’s a great place to stock up on high quality mel. There is even a honey vending machine in town for late night honey emergencies. The region also produces amazing olive oil, wine, rice, and hazelnuts.

The closest town is L'Ametlla de Mar, about ten minutes away, and there are trains directly there from central Barcelona, as well as buses. Here is a great website about the area with tips about restaurants, beaches, activities, and practicalities. If anyone is up for it, we are also considering booking a catamaran tour one day.

While we will have several planned activities, we encourage you to schedule in some time for yourself as well, as the region has so much to explore from medieval mountain villages, to stunning Mediterranean beaches, and rustic hiking spots and warm springs. Spain of course is known for its incredible food and wine, so definitely plan to indulge while you are here. We put together a map of some of our favorite local restaurants, beaches, nature spots, and villages. As we continue to get to know the area, we will add new discoveries to the list.

A note about gifts

Your presence is gift enough, truly. But gift-giving is a beautiful tradition and we recognize that a lot of people genuinely love the thought and meaning that goes into giving gifts. In that spirit, if gifts are your love language, we thought it would be wonderful to have a unique candlestick holder from every guest. Even for those that normally hate gifting, perhaps this constraint will relieve the pressure of finding the “perfect” thing. We light candles almost every night at dinner, and it would be so lovely to have an assortment of mismatched candlestick holders for our farmhouse that remind us of each of you every time we set the table. They can be anything; glass, ceramic, metal, wood…. scavenged from a flea market, made by hand, or even regifted. We already have an eclectic collection at home in Berlin, and this would kickstart our collection in Spain.

Transportation

The easiest way to get to the area from the Barcelona Airport, aside from driving, is by bus. You can find the bus schedule here. If you are driving, please be aware there are two tolls between Barcelona and Baix Ebre. One is around 8€ and one is 4€. You can pay it with card.

We will arrange transportation for you to and from Maset Antonia for Friday and Saturday night, and on Sunday since we are such a small group we can probably just organize rides or you can take a taxi from L’Amettla de Mar, the beach bar is about 2.5km from the center of town.

We want to make everything as relaxed as possible, so any way we can help please just let us know!
